Deaf Services Center, Inc. empowers those faced with language barriers by promoting access to communication. Our resources help those who have hearing loss or are non-English users to fully access the English language in communicating with others.
In 1980, the state of Ohio established Community Centers for the Deaf (CCD) with funding provided by the Rehabilitation Services Commission (RSC). The purpose was to provide advocacy for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, to coordinate Deaf community events, and to become a central location for providing information on Deafness. With a large Deaf population in central Ohio due to the Columbus location of the Ohio School for the Deaf, there was strong demand for services.
DSC began operations as Deaf Services Center in 1991 in order to expand on programs provided as a CCD. Under the guidance of dedicated staff and Board of Trustees, DSC established a strong foundation, becoming the leading provider of community-based services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in the state of Ohio.
DSC’s mission is to empower the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind and to promote access to communication, services and events in the community. DSC’s envisions a community where there are no communication barriers facing Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind individuals.
We empower those faced with language barriers by promoting access to communication. Our resources help those who have hearing loss or are non-English users to fully access the English language in communicating with others. Headquartered in central Ohio, with satellite offices serving the northwest and southeast areas of the state, DSC is the largest provider of services for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind in Ohio.
A 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, DSC works hard to empower the communities we serve.
DSC’s original logo was designed with four arrows pointing toward a center focal point. These arrows represent the Deaf Community, DSC Board and Staff, The Hearing Community, and DSC Programs and Services. The arrows point from the outside to the middle showing that we all work together toward a common goal of collaboration in providing our communities with the highest standard of service.
As time goes by, DSC has grown by leaps and bounds. We have added many programs and services over the years to meet the changing needs of the communities we serve. Our new logo captures the essence of the four arrows in a modern updated look. While the green and gray arrows still represent the original concept, the arrow created by the white space in between represents our movement forward. By embracing the past and updating our logo, DSC is ready to face the future to empower the communities we serve.
